What is Agile?

Agile software development is based on an incremental, iterative approach. The steps of the Agile development cycle are as follows:

  1. Requirements
  2. Plan
  3. Design
  4. Develop
  5. Release
  6. Track & Monitor

It is essential to remember that these phases should not occur in order; they are adaptable and ever-changing. Many of these phases occur concurrently.

Agile is a framework, and the Agile movement includes a variety of particular approaches. Consider these to be distinct flavors of Agile:

  • Scrum
  • Kanban

What is Scrum?

Scrum is a subset of Agile and one of the most popular process frameworks for implementing Agile. It is an iterative software model that sticks to a consistent set of roles, responsibilities, and meetings.Scrum aims to establish small pieces of a release faster in fixed-length iterations, called sprints, that last one to two weeks long.

Roles in Scrum

There are three specific roles in Scrum. They are:

  • Product Owner: The Scrum Product Owner has a vision for what he or she wants to develop and communicates that vision to the rest of the team. The Product Owner is concerned with the needs of the business and the market.
  • Scrum Master: The Scrum Master assists the team in doing their best work. This includes planning meetings, overcoming bottlenecks and problems, and collaborating with the Product Owner to ensure the product backlog is ready for the next sprint.
  • Scrum Team: The Scrum Team is made up of five to seven people. Everyone on the project collaborates, assists one another, and has a strong feeling of brotherhood.

What is Kanban?

Kanban, meaning “visual sign” or “card” in Japanese, is a visual framework to implement Agile. It encourages tiny, continual adjustments to your present system. Its concepts are as follows: visualize the process, limit work in progress, manage and improve the flow, make policies explicit, and constantly improve.

A Kanban board is a project management tool used to apply the Kanban technique. Boards are divided into three columns: to do, in process, and done. A software development project’s column may include backlog, ready, coding, testing, approval, and done.
